Sea Wind

Picture
This yacht had an unfortunate time & place coincidence with a plastic boat whilst on the 2011 "Round the Island" race.
The result was that the stem and apron were cracked through with resultant damage to all hull planking in the area of collision. The force of the impact transferred to some frames which also cracked through. Needless to say the bowsprit also required replacement along with some structural metalwork which had been strained beyond safe working loads.
The strange markings around the removed plank are where a temporary patch was stuck on with sealant in order that she could sail back to her berth.
After releasing all the plank end fastenings and easing back the planking we were able to remove the broken stem and judge exactly what other damage had occurred.

In this instance the stem and apron were made from a single piece of wood with the rabbit made when fitting the original hull planks, quite a normal traditional method. In order to make a strong and perfectly fitting replacement it was decided to re-create the centreline structure in two parts, firstly a laminated apron to fasten the planks to and then a false stem applied after the hull planks have been re-fastened. This would ensure a strong and stable structure with a fair and waterproof finish in effect reproducing the original shape but stronger due to its laminated make up.

White Wings

Picture
Much work has been done on White Wings which was American built and shipped to Britain for refitting she is seen here sailing in the Mediterranean Sea as she was when featured on the front cover of Classic Boat in 1996. We made and fitted a new spruce mast, deck planking, garboard strakes and many hull planks and then of course finished her off with new paint and varnish. She looks a picture.

Pazienza

Picture
Another classic yacht, this one a bit more famous than some in that it was once owned by Pete Townsend of "THE WHO". She is a Laurent Giles design, built in Italy. She has raced at most of the prestigious venues of the sailing world including Falmouth, the Fastnet and of course Cowes. She is pictured here at the America's Cup Jubilee celebration 2001 after substantial work by ourselves had been completed.

Biche

Picture
No comment on the ladies heritage. This one we made seaworthy just enough to sail her to a French maritime museum to go on exhibit as the last French sailing Tunny boat.
